Updated: 13 hours ago

Mayor Jada D. Curry, serving in her first term as Mayor for the Village of Lynwood,

made history after winning the February 23, 2021, primary and being elected the first African

American woman to hold the office of Village President (Mayor). Since then, she has hit the

ground running while standing on her platform of Trust, Transparency and Transformation,

working to make a difference in her community, the South Suburbs, and the Chicagoland region.

Mayor Curry earned her Associate of Arts in History from South Suburban College. She

went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Integrative Studies with a History focus and Master of Arts

in Multi-categorical Special Education from Governors State University. Prior to her historic win

as Mayor, she has a long history of public service and community engagement, serving as a

Trustee for the Village of Lynwood, and a member of Board of Education for Sunnybrook

School District 171 where she served for six years, including serving as Board President for her

last 2 years. She has also served as President of the YWCA Early HeadStart Advisory Board and is a member of Living Grace Church in Lynwood, IL. where she also sits on the Board of

Trustees.

Since becoming mayor, she has also stepped into additional national and regional board

and leadership roles, currently serving as the Director At-Large for the National Black Caucus of

Local Elected Officials (NBC-LEO) as well as Vice President of the Illinois Black Caucus of

Local Elected Officials (IBC-LEO). She is Vice President of the Southland Mayoral Black Caucus, and, having been elected by her peers, she serves on the executive board for South

Suburban Mayors and Managers (SSMMA) and chairs their Environmental Justice Committee.

Perhaps her greatest title is that of wife and mother. She enjoys being married to a retired law

enforcement officer and considers it an honor to be a Police Wife. She is the proud mother of

daughter and son.

Within the short amount of time that she has been in office, she has brought new economic development projects to the village, paid off a significant amount of municipal debt, and completed the largest road project in Village history. Through her leadership, in 2024, Lynwood welcomed Dunkin Donuts, a carwash, 2 events spaces, carwash, a green cemetery, a cannabis dispensary, with more new businesses on the horizon. She is both proud and excited for this year of manifestation and looks forward to shepherding other important investments into the Village for the betterment of her community and the region at large.
